First days of school are a lot like birthdays. They are an annual marker of time.
They are an undeniable reminder that your child has grown and continues to grow right before your very eyes. No matter how hard you try to slow it down. No matter how much you promise yourself that you will savor every moment and that their childhood will somehow stretch out a little longer. There is just no stopping it.
First days of school are tough and this one was no different. After the complete chaos of getting ready in the morning (where the heck are those school supplies we bought??) and our annual first day pictures, we stood at the bus stop together. There was so much excitement and I was glad that the boys were happy to be going back to school. I managed to see them off without a tear but the second the bus pulled away it was waterworks time. Even when you prepare yourself for these moments they still hit you like a ton of bricks.
First days of school are exciting and I can’t wait to see how they grow this year. I look forward to meeting them at the bus stop at the end of the day and watching them walk down the steps with new artwork in their hands. I can’t wait to get those kisses as they leave in the morning and then again when they come home in the afternoon. I hope that I will have many more years of these before they become too self conscious to kiss their mom goodbye.
Happy First Day to you my boys!
XO~Mom
